Tea parties can be from very elaborate gatherings to simple and quiet tea time with the besties. So what makes a garden tea party so much fun? It is because most of the time your surrounded by great conversation, relaxing scenery and some really good food! Learn to host the perfect gathering around tea including a gorgeous iced bucket made from fresh flowers and fruit!
Start With The Basics
How many guests are you planning to invite? How will you be accommodating each of them? We found some really neat ideas you can use. Obviously, there is just the plain blanket on the grass like picnic style or you can build from there using pallets to build a low seating "table" or actually have one built from just using lumber boards and staining them. Throw some decorative pillows for guests to sit on. Don't want to sit on the floor? Rent tables and chairs and drape them with beautiful linens. Either way focus on setting the up the floor plan where it will be easy for guests to have conversation and social interaction.
Menu
This is probably the most stressful part that the host has to put together, however with tea parties it is so easy to put a menu that everyone will love. Focus on small bites for example: Grazing boards, tea sandwiches, macarons, tea biscuits with jam, fruit, sweets & treats. A small garden salad & a plate full of small bites is the absolutely perfect to go with your teas!
Drinks
Have several options for your guests. If it's a fall day maybe have some hot tea options available but if this is a summer night maybe some iced southern tea would be delightful. Always have iced water for guests either way, you can add sliced lemons, cucumbers, mint or basil to flavor the water naturally!Plus, it looks absolutely beautiful!
Some popular teas to serve:
Honey Jasmine Green Tea
Mango Hibiscus Tea
Oolong Honey Tea
Music
Elevate the surroundings with some of your favorite music. With people talking and socializing keep it soft and simple.
Lighting
This is probably the most underestimated step to remember about a party setting. Lighting is so important for implementing the mood. Think from small tea candles to large ones set around the yard. Draped string lights around trees and branches twinkle. It softens the surroundings and adds ambiance. It's quiet magical!
Decoration and Fillers
To make it all come together you definitely want to grab some décor and fillers. Flowers add color and an abundance of life to a table. Not to mention, the smell of fresh cut flowers is amazing! You can arrange them in different heights and make center pieces. You can add even herbs like Rosemary twigs and lay them on your linen napkins or in a jar full of water as it floats in the middle. Some other nice fillers are feathers, photographs balloons! The décor would be more like your plate settings, napkins, chargers or even your tea cups and glasses! Color coordinate your décor to bring it all together!
